The Old Way of Dressing a Candle

The Old Way of Dressing a Candle

Before a single flame is lit, the wax is fed. Dressing a candle is the act of putting your intention into it — with oil, with herbs, and with prayer.

Anoint from the middle out to draw something toward you, or from the top down to send something away. A few drops of the right condition oil is plenty; more is not stronger.

Roll the dressed candle in herbs that match the work, set it on your petition paper, and speak your intention out loud as you light it. Then watch the flame — it will answer you.
